UCI Flagpoles
The Irvine based non-profit organization will travel throughout the US from April through June spreading the word about the millions of children and adults worldwide who need the gift of mobility. The Free Wheelchair Mission provides wheelchairs at no cost to the disabled in the developing world. They will kick-off the "Mobility in Motion 2008" Tour at UCI IRVINE! Chancellor Michael Drake will welcome the mission's founder, Don Schoendorfer, a mechanical engineer who designs inexpensive wheelchairs made with lawn chairs and bicycle tires. Schoendorfer was recently awarded the "Above and Beyond" civilian Medal of Honor by General Colin Powell in a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. More>> |

Our program's success strongly depends on our volunteers. Students will come to UC Irvine and compete in the projects that they have been working on for several weeks (or months) at our annual MESA Day. The top three winners from each competition will have the opportunity to compete at the regional level. This year we have the honor of hosting the regional competition for the middle school level.
