UCI SUPPORT for HAITI
Our thoughts are with those affected by the devastating earthquake in Haiti. On Tuesday, January 12th, 2010 Haiti was crushed by a destructive 7.0 earthquake. The earthquake has caused massive destruction, affecting millions of people and killing thousands. In an effort to do our part as a campus community we are working together to send financial donations and remember the lives lost. Please take a look below to see how you can help.

A web portal created by UCI Professor Chen Li from the Computer Science Department with a team of 6 students to help people look for missing people in the Haiti Earthquake. They obtained data from several web sites such as CNN iReport and Red Cross, and provided a search interface on the data. They also imported their data to the repository below with many other volunteers around the world.

Change for Change: UCI Support for Haiti
January 25 - June 30, 2010
UCI Parking Meters located in the UCI Student Center and Cross Cultural Center
In support of the UCI relief efforts for Haiti, Parking and Transportation Services and the Center for Service in Action have partnered to continue to provide hope and awareness in response to the devastating earthquake that affected the lives of many. By repurposing old parking meters as change donation points, you have the opportunity to create positive change in the lives of those currently affected by this tragedy. As a member of the UCI community, you have the chance to not only donate but also design the look of the meters.

Text “Haiti” to 90999
A donation of $10 will automatically be sent to the Red Cross through an effort backed by the U.S. State Department. One hundred percent of the $10 donation will go towards earthquake assitance – your cell carrier keeps nothing. For more information on this service visit the American Red Cross.
NO In-Kind Donations
Local organizations cannot accept donations of goods because the logistics of transporting and distributing “in-kind” donations can often be very expensive as well as time consuming, in particular organizing clearances to foreign countries and arranging transportation to remote areas.
