“I did not expect that we would be so needed by the community. I wondered how 15 people could make a difference, but throughout the week I soon realized just how needed we were. We were thanked countless times by every site and it was really wonderful to see that we made an impact. I would recommend this program to anyone and everyone interested in working towards something much bigger than themselves.”
-Leya Worcester
“The whole trip was most memorable. It was a rewarding experience to meet and work with other inspirational people who I never knew before. Throughout the trip, other volunteers and coordinators taught me a lot through their open minds and enthusiasm.”
-Bossakara Sokhom
“After doing community service for a whole week and working with many different non-profit organizations, I still feel like Alternative Winter Break is only the first step in this life long journey of making the world a better place. Thanks to Alternative Winter Break, I have a better sense of what needs to be done and what I can do to make another person’s life better.”
-Anella Aquino
“The best part was being able to work alongside a great, diverse set of people who all volunteered to go on this trip to give back and learn more about problems affecting our world. I sincerely mean it when I say that this was one of my greatest memories at UCI”
–Lydie Loth
“Stepping outside of one’s comfort zone can always be a challenging experience. But the experience I had during my brief stay at Dorothy’s Place was memorable and worthwhile in many ways.”
-Steve Park
“Since ASB, my life revolves around what I have learned and the people I experienced it with. I can’t seem to go a day without thinking of my Dream Center ASBers. I constantly think about the memory of our amazing week and think of ways I can use it in my future. Volunteering at the Dream Center has given me a new perspective on life.”
-Kim Loan Hoang
“ASB is a mind-blowing experience. One word that was continuously used to describe our daily experiences was: Intense. And it’s definitely an experience to be had.”
